- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 packages active-dry yeast
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup butter (softened)
- 1 large egg (beaten)
- 1 1/2 cups brown sugar (for caramel topping)
- 3/4 cup light corn syrup
- Chopped nuts (pecans or your choice)
- 1/3 cup butter (melted)
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (divided)
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
Instructions
- Prepare the dough by combining flour, sugar, yeast, and salt in a large bowl. Heat milk, water, and butter until warm; add to dry mixture along with the beaten egg. Mix until smooth.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface until elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
- For the caramel topping, blend brown sugar, corn syrup, and butter until smooth; pour into a greased baking pan.
- Roll out the dough into rectangles, brush with melted butter, sprinkle with brown sugar and spice mixture. Roll tightly and slice into pieces.
- Arrange slices in the prepared pan; cover and let rise again for about 45–60 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for about 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
