  • 4 1/25 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 packages active-dry yeast
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup butter (softened)
  • 1 large egg (beaten)
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar (for caramel topping)
  • 3/4 cup light corn syrup
  • Chopped nuts (pecans or your choice)
  • 1/3 cup butter (melted)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (divided)
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough by combining flour, sugar, yeast, and salt in a large bowl. Heat milk, water, and butter until warm; add to dry mixture along with the beaten egg. Mix until smooth.
  2. Knead the dough on a floured surface until elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  3. For the caramel topping, blend brown sugar, corn syrup, and butter until smooth; pour into a greased baking pan.
  4. Roll out the dough into rectangles, brush with melted butter, sprinkle with brown sugar and spice mixture. Roll tightly and slice into pieces.
  5. Arrange slices in the prepared pan; cover and let rise again for about 45–60 minutes.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for about 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
